Study, Work and Stay in Germany

Visa requirements for students.
If you are looking to study in Germany, the first thing you will need is a student visa. A German student visa allows students to attend school in Germany for the duration of their study program. At Eduropa OÜ we will help you gather the documents needed for a successful visa application in Germany.
1. Valid Passport
Your passport must be valid for at least six months and have at least two blank pages. It must also be valid for the duration of your stay in Germany and have been issued within the last 10 years.
2. Photographs
The photo must be in color and printed on photo paper. It must be a frontal view of your head and shoulders, with your chin parallel to the floor. You should take care not to make any shadows on your face or wear dark glasses.
The number of photos required is dependent on whether you are applying for an initial visa, or extending it after arriving in Germany:
- For an initial application for a student visa, two photographs are required (28 x 21 mm).
- For renewing/extending a student visa after arrival in Germany, three photographs are required (35 x 45 mm).
3. Financial Statement
You will need to include a financial statement and scholarship application letter with your visa application.
The financial statement should include a letter from your bank confirming that you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses during your stay in Germany.
- Bank statement should be in the applicant’s name (applicant’s parents also apply)
- Bank statement should be from a bank in the country of origin
- Bank statement should be made out to the applicant, not someone else
- The bank statement should not be more than six months old
4. Language Proof
You need to provide proof of your language proficiency in order to apply for a student visa. This can be a certificate from a German language course or from the Goethe Institute, if you are going to study in English an Academic IELTS test will be required.
5. Educational Documents
Besides the Letter of Acceptance from a German University/Institution an academic records/marks sheets/transcripts of your previous education will be required:
- Must be certified by the issuing university and translated into English or German.
- Include all subjects studied, including grades and credits.
6. Health Insurance
If you are applying for a student visa in Germany, you will need to have a medical certificate and health insurance policy.
The medical certificate must be issued by an official doctor or hospital. It should include:
- Your name and date of birth
- Your current address in Germany (if applicable)
- A description of your condition(s), including any medications that you are taking and treatment plan
The health insurance policy must cover at least 30,000 euros per year (around $34,000). You can get this from any provider in Germany or other European Union countries; however, some companies may require additional information before issuing their policy.
